Tenasol's healthcare data merging tool (located here) is a tool for combining multiple healthcare data files together into one, currently available for HL7v2, HL7v3, FHIR, as well as mixed sets of PDF/images for free.

What Does This Tool Do?

It is common that a business unit would want to aggregate smaller healthcare data files into one larger file, especially in the case of building a longitudinal patient record. This is a form of data optimization and interoperability, often sought by EMR's, payers, federal institutions, and others. This tool permits it by indexing all the information input, and combining it to a single file, in total performing:

• Aggregation / Merging of all files

• Deduplication of data where possible (files, pages, messages, or structured elements)

• Resizing of pages to match (only for pdfs/images)

• Rotation of some input files of rotation data is present (only for pdfs/images). This relies on the rotation data inside of the image/pdf, not the text itself or OCR, however we can offer this as a custom feature for contracted users.

The tool accommodates sets of:

• HL7v2 messages (such as admit/discharge): When these are merged, they are combined into a single file according to the HL7v2 spec guidance. Any duplicate messages in entirety are removed from the output. (.hl7, .txt, .msg, .dat, .er7, .hl7v2)

• HL7v3 / C-CDA messages: HL7v3 messages are merged into a single C-CDA file. This includes unstructured sections. Unstructured sections are only removed if they are 100% identical to other occurrences of that unstructured section, otherwise they are concatenated. (.xml)

• HL7 FHIR: Resources are renamed by their hashed contents to eliminate duplicate resources. Resources with identical name and identifying information are merged into single resources where possible. (.json)

• Images/PDFs: These are concatenated into a single large pdf file and return to the user, with duplicates removed, resizing, and in some cases rotation if the data is available. (.pdf, .tif, .tiff (multi-page supported), .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .gif)

How Do I Use The Healthcare Data Merge Tool?

To use the tool, simply add files of a single type and merge them. If a malformed or invalid file is supplied, our system will throw an error. Merging may take up to about a minute depending on the input file size.

From there, you may view, download, or copy the output. If the output is HL7 FHIR, consider viewing and or validating in our FHIR Viewer interface.

Limitations of Free Version:

• the number of files that may be merged is limited to 10/day

• mixed file formats may not be merged

• you should have a BAA in place with Tenasol to meet full HIPAA compliance.

• file size - we merge files of any size but limited each file to 0.5mb for the free version.

Is It HIPAA Compliant?

Yes! Tenasol offers fully HIPAA data merging under a paid contract, and we expose it here as a so prospective clients may test out our best-in-class conversion capability with deidentified or synthetic medical record data.

For our free use online tool, we do not retain your data past one hour maximum, and it is encrypted in transfer and at rest, however it is not good practice to upload healthcare data to the internet for trial products.
