Tenasol Risk/Quality Evidence Exporter

Tenasol's risk/quality evidence exporting tool (located here) is a tool for exporting evidence found within medical records for either risk/HCC or quality (HEDIS) purposes. The tool ingests a single HL7v2, HL7v3, FHIR, and PDF/image files for free.

In this blog we will cover the features of the tool and how to configure it for your use. If you are interested in accessing the API for high volume use, please contact our team.

HEDIS/CMS Risk evidence Exporter

What Does This Tool Do?

Payers are often interested in detecting information that is directly tied to risk and quality (HEDIS) programs. This tool takes in files, autonomously detects the file uploaded and exports the appropriate evidence in either CSV or HL7 FHIR format. Evidence is exported in CSV or (if using Quality/HEDIS export) HL7 FHIR format. When exporting to Quality/HEDIS, we export for ALL hybrid measures.

NOTE: This tool does not perform extraction of unstructured evidence within FHIR or HL7v3 CDA inputs in this service, but offer it as a standard offering using customized BERT transformers / LLM's with probabilistic output. Contact us for more info if needed.

The tool accommodates sets of:

How Do I Use Risk/Quality Evidence Tool?

To use the tool, simply:

  • add an HL7v2, HL7v3, FHIR, or EDI X12 data file to the tool. NOTE: Tenasol processes PDF, images, doc/docx, and rtf/txt files as well but they are not available in the free version.

  • select the evidence format: Tenasol usually keeps 2 quality/HEDIS years available and 1 risk year available.

  • select structured data only or all data: HL7 FHIR, CCDA HL7v3 both carry structured AND unstructured data. Structured data has the highest resiliency across formats, and is therefore the safest. However, unstructured data can offer a lot of evidence

  • select your export format: If you are conducting Risk export we only output CSV. If HEDIS/quality, we can export to CSV or to HL7 FHIR measure evidence, and it is done for all hybrid measures.

Here is an example of a FHIR export for a single patients record:

FHIR MeasureReport Resources

From there, you may view, download, or copy the output. If the output is HL7 FHIR, consider viewing and or validating in our FHIR Viewer interface.

Limitations of Free Version:

  • only 1 file may be run at a time

  • the number of files that may be merged is limited to 10/day

  • unstructured fields and input files are not available for processing.

  • you should have a BAA in place with Tenasol to meet full HIPAA compliance.

  • file size - we merge files of any size but limited each file to 0.5mb for the free version.

Is It HIPAA Compliant?

Yes! Tenasol offers fully HIPAA data merging under a paid contract, and we expose it here as a so prospective clients may test out our best-in-class conversion capability with deidentified or synthetic medical record data.

For our free use online tool, we do not retain your data past one hour maximum, and it is encrypted in transfer and at rest, however it is not good practice to upload healthcare data to the internet for trial products.

Does Tenasol Offer This Service as an API?

Yes! Tenasol offers evidence export services as a:

  • HIPAA compliant API

  • HIPAA compliant user interface

  • HIPAA compliant batch transfer service

Which ever one is easiest for your organization we can accommodate. We permit processing volumes for over a million files a day, and can process files of any size.

The Tenasol Evidence Extraction Utility

Tenasol offers rates on a per-GB basis regardless of input filetype. For larger operations, we offer volume discounts or even per-member-per-month pricing options. Contact Our sales team for more information.

Tenasol’s risk and quality evidence export tool helps organizations turn complex medical records into usable evidence for HCC risk adjustment and HEDIS quality initiatives. It supports common healthcare formats—including HL7v2, C-CDA, FHIR, and X12 claims—and automatically identifies the uploaded file type before exporting the relevant results. Teams can choose a supported reporting year, decide whether to use structured data alone or include available narrative content, and export results as CSV or, for quality workflows, HL7 FHIR measure evidence across hybrid measures.

The free tool is designed for testing with deidentified or synthetic data and provides a straightforward way to evaluate Tenasol’s extraction capabilities. Organizations handling production PHI, higher file volumes, large files, or unstructured documents can use Tenasol’s HIPAA-compliant API, user interface, or batch-transfer services under a BAA. By making measure- and risk-relevant evidence easier to identify and export, Tenasol helps payer teams reduce manual review while supporting more scalable quality and risk operations.
